Ulrich Beck, born in 1981 in Stuttgart, studied dramaturgy at the Academy for Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig from 2005 to 2009, after which he gained his first practical experiences at Schauspiel Staatstheater Stuttgart (directorship Friedrich Schirmer). During his studies he was an assistant for dramaturgy at Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Deutsches Theater Berlin and Burgtheater Wien as well as dramaturge for Alexander Riemenschneider’s dramatization of Kafka’s novella “The Penal Colony” (“In der Strafkolonie”) at Thalia Theater Hamburg. From 2009 to 2011 he was an assistant for dramaturgy at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, where he has been employed as a dramaturge since the season of 2011/12.
