Christa Müller was born in Kaiserslautern, Germany. She studied History of Dramatics, German and English Literature at the University of Munich and took acting classes. She began working as a dramaturge and actress at the theatres in Dinkelsbühl, Landshut and Kaiserslautern (1969-1981) and gained further experiences in the adaptation and translation of plays, some of which are published. She worked as an editor for publishers of German drama and joined the team of Ulrich Khuon (the present artistic director of Deutsches Theater Berlin) as a dramaturge at the Stadttheater Konstanz (1983-93), as director of artistic production at the Staatstheater Hannover (1993-2000), as production director and dramaturge of 'Thalia in der Gaußstraße' at the Thalia Theater Hamburg (2000-09), and finally as dramaturge in charge of international contacts and the festival 'Berliner Autorentheatertage' at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.
